I went to a wedding over Labor Day weekend in Aspen, Colorado. The wedding was nice, but I was really going for some live music. Stevie Nicks was performing at Jazz Aspen Snowmass and at age 74, she rocked it! And dang, her lyrics hit hard when you really listen. "Even children get older, and I'm getting older too," has some real meaning to it. Just a row or two back from the stage, I was really into the show, and so was the whole rest of the crowd. I'll definitely remember that more than the wedding, but let me bring this back around.

I was only a +1 for the wedding and had never met the bride or groom before the wedding. But, when things opened up at the reception, and before it got too late and my words would be forgotten, I pulled the groom aside for some counsel. Because I know about these things. Or think that I do.

Now, I don't know if this couple lived together before and I don't know what their pet situation is, but it didn't matter, I was slinging pillow, sleep, and bed advice anyway. I love dogs, but that's where I started, and so I told this man to not let his dogs sleep in his bed. They're probably going to shed, they might bark if you try to move them from the bed later in life, and well, the bed's got to be a space for a couple and no one else.

Don't strike me down, but same thing with kids. Can't just be parents, got to be a couple too. The best thing for a happy kid is a happy mom and dad. And so you might start with a newborn in a bassinet in your bedroom, but don't let a child get too comfortable in your bedroom. Same reason, there needs to be a space for the couple. My opinion.

Those were the big ones, but the groom fake smiled as if agreeing and so I kept going.

Make your bed every morning. A clean house and a made bed can't be overrated. You feel better in it, and that's probably going to help you to sleep better too. And your partner's going to appreciate a made bed too, even if you don't.

Wash your sheets. I talked about this before, how amazinggg clean sheets, pillows, and comforters can feel. And I still believe it.

And ah, communication! Never go to sleep angry. Everyone says that and it's so hard. They don't get how hard that really can be, and sometimes it's not even a reasonable ask. Some things take longer than a day or night to work through. But that's it, try to talk through it, don't avoid the topic and think that it'll be better in the morning. It sounds so easy, but communication might not come naturally and it's definitely not always comfortable. That was my advice to the young couple though, or to the groom at least. Thanks for listening Zach, and of course, congrats again!

I do hope they like their new pillows too, because if I'm going to a wedding, you know what I'm gifting! I never see new pillows on a wedding registry, but dang, they should be, and hopefully the 100% down Original Queen Anne pillows help the happy couple to some great sleep.
